This portfolio displays a range of works completed during the first semester of my Fine Art Masters at Birmingham City University (The Birmingham School of Art). It explores contemporary Feminist ideologies of intersectionality with the body positive movement. Through the exploration of the line between figurative and abstract painting; the intimate composition of the body allows the viewer to see beauty in something stereotypically ugly. They appear ambiguous, drawing attention to the spaces in between, the slits or crevices. The artificial colour pallet directly references the commercialisation of the beauty industry, and the images that are used to make us believe that there is only one standard of beauty for women.
